The Kigali International Peace Marathon was born from Rwanda's remarkable journey of reconciliation. Inaugurated in 2005, under the patronage of His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda.
What started with a few hundred participants has grown into one of Africa's most meaningful races, attracting runners from 40+ countries who come not just to compete, but to bear witness, to remember, and to celebrate how far Rwanda has come.
Today, the marathon is organized by the Rwanda Athletics Federation in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and the Rwanda Development Board, with support from corporate sponsors committed to peace and development.
